Duties & Responsibilities

The Deputy Director, Digital Communications will be responsible for managing and advancing the use and integration of digital channels for the University's communications in support of initiatives from Harvard Public Affairs & Communications and Alumni Affairs & Development. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, this position will be responsible for helping envision and craft both a long-term digital strategy incorporating evolving best practices from within and beyond the educational world, and managing the short term execution of digital communications projects.

This role will oversee ongoing design, development, and maintenance efforts related to high profile University websites, mobile applications, multimedia features, and associated social media efforts. This role also requires the ability to assess and measure the effectiveness of digital outreach, and to use a variety of analytical tools. This role will manage client relationships both within HPAC and AA&D, and manage initiatives beyond these groups in support of an emerging University-wide web strategy. Additionally, this role requires participation in committees, external initiatives, conferences, and working groups on behalf of the University. Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion is required.?After-hours availability and some travel required. Other duties in support of the CDO and HPAC and AA&D senior management as required.

Basic Qualifications
  • Seven or more years of experience in internet communications and client services
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in traditional and interactive marketing practices
  • Knowledge of and interest in web and social analytics
  • Management experience with technical and non-technical resources
  • Ability to work collaboratively and under deadline pressure
  • Ability to think strategically as well as operationally
  • Able to juggle multiple projects and work in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Computer literate, with special interest in the web; fluent in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and web-based project management tools
  • Graduate of accredited four-year college
  • Strongly committed to the higher education mission, with a willingness to function effectively as a University citizen
Additional Qualifications
  • Willingness to constantly investigate and acquire new skills based on changing internet landscape
  • Quantitative analysis skills
  • Experience both agency and client side in internet marketing and/or client services
  • Graduate degree strongly preferred
