Abstract
The Network+ Certification Extension is a second-semester extension to the NAF course Computer Networking. The purpose of this course extension is to prepare students to pass the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. It is geared to the CompTIA Network+ exam number N10-004. This course extension assumes that students have successfully completed AOIT Computer Networking. This extension uses hands-on labs, readings, vocabulary building activities, group work, discussions, presentations, and practice tests to provide students the proficiencies tested on the exam.
Expected Student Outcomes/Objectives
Student objectives are provided for each individual lesson within the course. For example, student learning objectives for the first lesson are:
Each student will:
? Explain CompTIA Network+ certification
? Characterize the benefits of becoming Network+ certified
? Identify the skills and knowledge needed to achieve Network+ certification
Ultimate objective is that each student will earn CompTIA Network+ certification.
Description
This curriculum is provided by NAF as a second-semester extension to our AOIT Computer Networking course. The purpose of this extension is to prepare students to pass the 2009 version of the CompTIA Network+ certification exam (N10-004). The exam proves a student?s competency in managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network infrastructure.
Passing the Network+ certification exam opens doors for students to land both internships and jobs as network technicians. NAF views Network+ certification as a stepping stone rather than an end in itself. The objective is to give students a taste of what it?s like to see their job horizons expand when they have a certification in their pocket. The course is meant to encourage students to get a high school diploma, go on to college, and then get higher level certifications as college graduates, such as the Microsoft Systems Engineer certification.
The course is comprised of 20 lessons which all aim to prepare students to pass the CompTIA Network+ exam.
Culminating Activity and/or Assessment
All students are expected to earn CompTIA Network+ certification by passing the exam.
Instructional Materials Needed
Materials needed are outlined in each lesson.
